The Governor of Edo state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has called on Nigerians to choose their leaders on the basis of competence and issues rather than ethnic sentiments.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole made the call on Monday after taking his oath of office for a second term as Governor of Edo State. He pledged to focus on industrialisation and man power development in his second term in office.

The governor highlighted the sacrifice of those who paid the supreme price for democracy in the state promising that their death will not be in vain.

He however called on the Nigerian Police to fish out the killers of his personal secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde, who was murdered during the campaigns for the July 14 Edo governorship election.

The Governor took the people down memory lane; describing the state he had met as one where everything had come to stand still and where people had lost hope in the ability of government to change the story.

He however added that “four years down the line Edo is a working story.”

The elated governor stated that “in the next four years he will focus on industrialisation and the development of man power.”

Examining the democratic progress of Nigeria, the governor wondered if an Obama can win election in Nigeria where votes are largely cast on the basis of ethnicity and birth place rather competence and issues.
