The Chairman of the Nation Newspapers Editorial board, Sam Omatseye on Tuesday said he doesn’t expect the country’s situation can be transformed overnight from bottom to top.

Mr Omatseye, who made this revelation while speaking as a guest on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television’s breakfast show, decried the low attention education has received in the scheme of things in the country.

He drew a comparison of the budgetary allocation of West African neighbours Ghana, whom he said spend 25-26 per cent of their annual budget on education with Nigeria whom he said spends only 6-7 per cent.

He further blamed the stagnant state of the nation on the low attention accorded to education, adding that the nation lacks the zeal to give education the proper attention it deserves.

This comes on the heels of complaints by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije on the low implementation of the 2012 education budget.
