The first sets of Diploma holders recently engaged by the Yobe State Government under the Youth Empowerment Programme have started benefiting from the empowerment programme as the state government paid their monthly allowance of N15, ooo.

Speaking to journalists at the payment point in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, the Chairman of the committee responsible for the programme, Kati Machina confirmed that 6, 751 youth are currently being paid their November allowance and also urged them to use their resources in gainful ventures.

The chairman, who commended the state government over this move,  said it will go a long way in reducing youth restiveness in the state.

The State Head of Service, Dauda Yahaya said 4, 000 youth, who will be engaged in impacting knowledge to primary school pupils, have been drafted to the National Teachers Institute (NTI) to give the applicants the rudiments of teaching as it relates to primary education.

He said 400 of these youth will also be deployed to hospitals across the state to assists in the general administration pointing out that their services will impact positively on the society.

Mr Yahaya however expressed sadness that some already employed youth were recruited in the exercise stressing that the committee is carrying out a screening exercise that will fish out the culprits.
