Argentine and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has been awarded the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for 2012.

Messi won the award from 2009-2012 to equal former french midfielder and UEFA President Michel Platini’s record of winning the title three consecutive times achieved in 1983-1985.

Messi beat Barcelona team mate Andreas Iniesta and Real Madrid’s super star Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award for a record fourth time.

In other awards, Spain coach Vincente Del Bosque won the FIFA Coach of the Year Award with Swede Pia Sundhage taking home the Women’s World Coach of the Year accolade.

President of the Local Organising Committee of the 2006 World Cup, Franz Beckenbauer bagged the FIFA Presidential Award as Uzbekistan was named the FIFA Fair Play winner.

Miroslav Stoch’s goal against Gernclerbirligi won the Ferenc Puskas award for the best goal of the year. American star striker Amby Wambach beat Brazilian Mata to win the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year.
