There was pandemonium at Du village in Jos south local government of Plateau state, north central Nigeria, on Wednesday as some gunmen attacked a ranch in the village killing two people on the spot.

Eyewitnesses say the gunmen stormed the ranch in the village early this morning, firing sporadically into the air. The Governor of Plateau state, Jonah Jang, is reportedly to be from Du village.

According to the Jos south management committee chairman, Peter Dung, the gunmen got to the village in a Hi-Lux vehicle, and bolted away when they failed to gain access into the ranch.

Mr. Dung maintained that no security operatives arrived at the scene before the gunmen disappeared, which forced the villagers to troop out to protest the killings and the invasion.

However, men of the special task force in the state arrived the village after the incident had occurred leaving the attackers to escape.

some suspects were arrested, mostly youths who came out to defend their village.

The special task force while addressing the press through its media officer, Captain Salisu Mustahpa denied the position that two people died  during the attack adding that men of the command only arrested nine suspects in connection with the incident.

He pointed out that the command received a distress call through one of the recently launched emergency telephone numbers to the general public in relation to sporadic gunshots around Du, Shenabe and Bisichi villages in Jos south local government area of plateau state.

Captain Mustapha claim the men of the command combed the area and arrested nine suspects in four different cars  with dangerous weapons adding that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects acquired the weapons from various sources within Plateau state.

He stated that the suspects claimed they exchanged gunfire with some gunmen who came to rustle cows in Du village and it was in the process of ambushing the gunmen that they were arrested.
