Tournament favourites Cote d’Ivoire have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with an emphatic win over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia by 3 goals to nil.

The Elephants took the lead when Arsenal striker, Gervinho clinically finished off a superb one-two with Lacina Traore.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure made it 2-nil with a stunning curler into the far corner from 20 yards.

Substitute Didier Ya Konan confirmed the Ivorian’s victory when he rolled the ball home with virtually his first touch of the game.

The result lifted the Ivorians’ to six points, which could be sufficient to earn them an early last-eight ticket should Algeria draw with Togo later in the second Group D tie.

In a surprise, the Elephant’s captain, Didier Drogba was dropped to the bench for the match. Also out were Manchester City defender Kolo Toure and midfield duo Max Gradel and Ya Konan.
