Reports reaching Channels TV have it that about 100 armed men have attacked Birnin Gwari town in Kaduna State, destroying the police station in the area and killing three policemen after a two-hour gun battle.
According to the reports, the attack which started at about midnight also affected banks and other public buildings.
Eye witness accounts say besides the gun shots, the gunmen also used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the attack.
Some of the bandits are also believed to have been killed in the course of the shooting.
In October 2012, gunmen invaded the town killing about 20 worshippers leaving a mosque in an early morning raid.
