A Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has said that the reduction in the number of political parties and possible adoption of a two party system in Nigeria would signal the beginning of better leadership.

In a recent interview, he said that he believes the adoption of a two party system is the way to go for the country.

“I think we are moving towards that direction.” He said.

Vice President Atiku approves of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to delist 28 political parties.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday December 6th deregistered 28 political parties in Nigeria.

In a press statement signed by the Secretary to INEC, Abdullahi Kangama, the commission based its action on the power conferred on it by the 1999 constitution (as amended) and the electoral act 2010 (as amended).

Vice President Atiku’s has now put his stamp of approval on INEC’s move stating that he has “always advocated for fewer political parties.”

He stated that the country will have if the country adopts the two party system it will experience “a better political process and … better leadership”.
