The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has stated that chairman who is not found to be in residence in his local government within the next six months risks being sacked.

Governor Fayemi, gave the warning during the swearing-in ceremony of the council bosses in Ado-Ekiti on Friday; saying that they are expected to be resident in their respective local government areas and give attention to the people whom they are appointed to serve.

The Governor who stated that it is now an offence for any council boss to reside permanently in Ado Ekiti, the state capital hinted that he might pay them an impromptu visit at any day of the week and any time of the day, adding that anyone found wanting would be dismissed.

He charged the new council bosses to collaborate with traditional rulers and the citizenry in order to achieve good governance.

While reiterating the aversion of his administration to corruption, the Governor stressed that government would not hesitate to prosecute any public office holder caught in fraudulent practices.

Dr. Fayemi also urged them to give priority to the welfare of the citizens and curb activities of marauders in their domains, by working with the relevant security agencies as well as the newly established Peace Corps.

He stressed the need to fast-track the socio-economic transformation of the communities through purposeful leadership; adding that they should have inputs in the preparation of the local government’s version of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

On infrastructure development, Fayemi announced that the Second phase of the construction of 5km roads would soon begin across the state even as he emphasized the need to complete the first phase where such is yet to be completed in any local government in the state.

In his remarks, the Caretaker Chairman of Efon Local Government, Dr. Adio Folayan promised that the new council helmsmen, would embark on projects that will bring about physical and economic development.

Folayan added that transformational leadership is about making the Future possible and assured that they would work to actualise the 8-point agenda of the Fayemi-led Administration.

 

Mourns Goldie

Dr. Fayemi also expressed shock on the death of multiple award winning pop music star, Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey popularly known as “Goldie.”

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, described the death of the artiste as a “big blow to the global entertainment industry”.

He praised Goldie for representing Nigeria well in last year’s edition of the Big Brother Africa competition where she won millions of admirers.

Fayemi also described Goldie’s death as great loss to Ekiti State as the late star hailed from Ikole-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikole Local Government Area of the state.

With Goldie’s death, Fayemi said a bright star from Ekiti whose impact in the entertainment industry reverberated across the nation and the world stage has been eclipsed.

He noted that the works of the artiste brought joy to his fans all over the world saying he derived consolation from the fact that although Goldie is dead, her music will remain in the hearts of his fans and admirers all over the world.

The Governor urged the family of the deceased to be consoled that their daughter lived a fulfilled life and had carved a niche for herself in her chosen career.

In her short but eventful life, Goldie was an ambassador of Project Alert, a world renowned non-profit organisation, she was  president of the organisation aimed at advocating Zero tolerance to all forms of violence against women and young girls. She had won over ten awards including Exquisite Lady of the year (ELOY), Best Female Artiste award and City People Best Female Artiste of the year.

“This great daughter of Ekiti recorded so many feats in her short but eventful lifetime. Our prayer is that God will grant the family and fans the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The statement added.
