The legal battle for the reversal of the new practicing fees for lawyers is scheduled to begin on 4 March.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumoghobia of the Federal High Court in Lagos fixed the date after she delivered a ruling on an Exparte application filed by a Lagos based legal practitioner, Seth Amaefule and five others challenging the 500 percent increment on practicing fees payable by Nigerian lawyers as fixed by the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)

The court overruled the Exparte application on the ground that the plaintiffs did not place sufficient materials before it to warrant the granting of the application.

The court has also asked that the defendants in the suit be served all necessary papers to enable all the parties come before it at the next adjourned date to respond appropriately to all the issues raised.

Joined as defendants in the suit are Okey Wali, the president of the NBA, Adoke Bello, The Attorney General of the Federation and the General Council of the Bar.

The other defendants are the registered trustees of the NBA, the Chairman of the Lagos Branch of the NBA, Taiwo Taiwo and the Chairman of the Ikeja Branch, Monday Ubani.
