Pan Yoruba political organisation, Afenifere, has called for a national security summit to bring leaders and all stakeholders together from across the country to brainstorm on the near security collapse in the country and proffer solutions to the challenge.

In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Yinka Odunmakin, the organisation described the state of insecurity in the country as total anarchy with human lives being snuffed out on a daily basis.

The statement added that 48 hours after the former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophillus Danjuma cited an imminent civil war in the northern part of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police of Kwara State, Chikwe Asadu, was killed in his home state of Enugu while 22 people were killed in Borno State in an attempt to take over an army barrack by members of the fundamentalist group, Boko Haram.

And according to the statement, the Federal Government has little or nothing to proffer as a solution to these killings.

It said that “no normal Nigerian will say everything is well in the country with the current state of insecurity being experienced, as bombs keep flying like bangers, guns booming in every nook, kidnappers daily nabbing their victims and assassins shooting without missing.”

Talking of the 2015 elections, the statement said that it takes a demented political class to pretend that all is well within the country; that there’s a good setting in place to conduct elections, given the culture of fear spreading across the country.

The group suggested that the national summit being clamoured for should be a prelude to a national conference that will address the structure of Nigeria in a way that the constituent units can live peaceably within a proper federation built on justice, equity and fair play.
