The Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved the 21st of March for judgement on a motion on the infringement of fundamental human rights brought against the Senate President, the National Assembly, the Inspector General Of Police (IGP) and 6 others by the embattled head of the Pension Reforms Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.
Mr. Maina is seeking N1.5 billion in compensation for psychological trauma and embarrassment caused members of his family and himself by the warrant of arrest declared on him.
The counsel to the wanted civil servant, Mr. Mahmoud Magaji also asked the court to quash the warrant of arrest, claiming that it has no provisions in the relevant section of the Nigerian constitution, a matter which the counsel to the Senate President said is not backed by the Evidence Act.
Mr. Maina is embroiled in a N195 billion pension scam which is being investigated by the National Assembly and he has refused to appear before the Senate Committee that is investigating the scam.
The Nigeria Police Force has since declared him wanted from his failure to appear before the committee after repeated summons.
President Goodluck Jonathan has also directed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation; Alhaji Isa Sali, to immediately commence disciplinary action against Alhaji Maina for absconding from duty.
