Despite confirmation from foreign governments that seven foreign nationals have been killed in Bauchi state, northern Nigeria, the Minister of Interior has insisted that the federal government has no knowledge of such killings.

The Minister, Mr. Abba Moro told journalists on Monday that until a full confirmation is made by the Nigerian government, no one can say for sure that the hostages have been killed.

According to him, “as long as it remains unconfirmed, efforts will be made to ensure their early rescue and security”.

However the government of the United Kingdom, Italy and Greece has confirmed the killings as series of condemnations of the kilings by the various governments has been made and families of the victims have issued condolence messages.

This is coming just as the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, refused to speak with journalists on the seven foreign hostages allegedly killed by an Islamist sect, Ansaru.

State house correspondents had confronted him on the position of the federal government on the incident, but Mr Maku said he had not been fully briefed.

“I don’t have the full brief to brief you” was all he uttered and he walked briskly out of the Presidential Villa, after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.

When the government’s spokesperson was further asked to comment on the listing of Nigeria as a terrorist state by France over the incident, the Minister kept mum.

A Briton, an Italian, a Greek and four Lebanese workers were captured in a raid on the Setraco construction site in Bauchi state on the 6th of February. One Nigerian security guard died during the assault.

Ansaru is a suspected offshoot of the Boko Haram sect published a video on YouTube appears to show the bodies of some of the foreign hostages seized.

The silent video is said to have shown a gunman standing next to a pile of bodies.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi state Police Public Relations officer, Mr Hassan Auyo however said that the police are still investigating the matter and the authenticity of the information allegedly posted on website by the group.
