The Nigerian Army has apprehended 14 tankers said to be carrying crude oil stolen from a pipeline of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Abaji local government in Abuja.

Briefing journalist in Abuja, the Commandant, Guards Bridgade Battalion, Brigadier General Emmanuel Atewe said the tankers, which belonged to one Mr. Joseph Ameachi, were arrested in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state.

Ameachi, he added, tried to bribe his way out of the situation with the sum of N140, 000, however confessed during investigation that the he and other members of his syndicate broke and syphoned the crude product from pipelines belonging to the NNPC  in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking further, General Atewe said, Mr. Amaechi was arrested alongside 15other suspects and one AK 47 riffle and a magazine gun.

The suspect will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and prosecution.

The tankers were seized on their Kano state in the north western part of Nigeria.
