About 157, Niger Delta ex-militants from the Bakassi region have willingly donated 150 tonnes of blood to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital blood bank.

The donation which is free of charge from the group, under the umbrella of Bakassi Volunteer Force is aimed at availing the needy and the poor in the society with the opportunity to live.

The ex-gun-wielding men came out, not on a protest, but to give hope by donating blood to save lives, an act that clearly opposes the plague of terrorism in the country, a gesture also, calling on those involved in killing innocent lives to desist.

The ex-agitators were received at the hospital by the Chief Medical Director, Doctor Thomas Agan who described their essence to the hospital as a show of respect to human lives.

A gesture, he added is worthy of emulation.

He assured that the donation will be judiciously utilized to the benefit of the needy, and also in cases of emergencies.

Leader of the group, Bofa Olorogun said their desire to do this, is borne out of a demonstration that development can only thrive where there is peace.

He and other members of the group enjoined Nigerian youths to think of what they can do to better the country, rather than, engaging in terrorist attacks.

The group further said, they will continue to map out activities to strengthen areas of moral decadence.
