The Federal Government on Thursday confirmed its partnership with the China EXIM bank to fund and import 100 rice mills from the Asian continent.

The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Umar Hussein said the rice mills will be advertised and handed over to the private sector to manage without government interference.

Speaking at a meeting with civil society organizations on the new alliance for food security, Mr Hussein said each state of the federation is to receive at least two mills.

He said “this is in line with plans to transit from a rice importing nation to a producing and exporting one”.
