The Imo state police command has nabbed a 55 year old woman, Mrs Patience Aibangbe from Edo State alongside two of her accomplices for allegedly stealing two newly born babies of different families, 72 hours after their delivery.

Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Owerri, the Imo state capital, the state police public relations officer; Mrs Joy Elemoko, said the crime was committed at Uzoma village in Oyigbo Local Government area of Rivers state.

The suspects were intercepted by the command’s ambush squad along Port-harcourt road in Owerri on their way to Lagos.


Elemoko added that after the police interrogated the 55 year old woman who claimed to have given birth to the children it was discovered that her claim was untrue and did not correlate with the information given by the other suspects.

She however said the Imo state Commissioner for Police; Mohammed Katsina, has stated that this offense is conspiratorial and anybody found within this cycle of crime is an accomplice and will be brought before the law.

Meanwhile the alleged mother of the two babies denied stealing the babies.

She narrated how she paid one Mrs Okoro from Rivers state the sum of N1.8million, to help her with some herbal drugs which enhanced her pregnancy after many years of being childless.

However, the other suspected accomplice Mrs Felicia Edegbe denied any involvement in the case, claiming she was invited from Benin to Rivers state by her friend to help her carry her babies.

She also claimed not be aware that the babies do not belong to her.
