Edo state Government has banned movements in and outside the state ahead of the local government polls on Saturday.

The state government in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor; Peter Okhiria, also said that “movements within the state will be restricted between 6am to 5pm during which the election will hold.”

“Only security personnel, electoral officers, accredited election observers, accredited press men and others on essential duty are exempted from this restriction order” the statement announced.

Electorates are however urged to “go about their civic duties without fear of molestation, intimidation and attack as security agencies are under strict instructions to arrest and deal decisively with those who may want to breach the peace in the state before, during and after the elections.”

Ferment Trouble Not

Meanwhile the Nigerian Army has also advised residents of Edo State to desist from fermenting trouble during the conduct of the local government elections in the state.

The Commander of the 4 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army; Brigadier General Pat Akeem, made this known while briefing journalists in Benin City ahead of the polls.

Pat Akeem said, though the military will not be actively monitoring the polls, it will however remain on standby and respond if there is any breach of peace in the state.
