Super Eagles striker Victor Moses inspired Chelsea to a 2-1 win over Swiss side FC Basel in a first leg Europa league semifinal last night with a superb header 12 minutes into the game.

The home team fought back to restore parity three minutes from time at the jammed Jakob park, before David Luiz ensured victory for Chelsea with the last kick of the game from a 22-yard free kick.

Victor’s fellow compatriot, Mikel Obi watched as he remained on the reserve bench till the end of the game.

In the other semi-final, Joseph Yobo’s Fenerbache piped Portuguese Benfica 1-0 at home courtesy of a late winner.

The winners of both semi-finals will clash in the final at the Amsterdam arena in Amsterdam on May 15.

Meanwhile, Benfica coach Jorge Jesus believes his team wasted a lot of goal scoring chances and paid the ultimate price for not converting their chances in first leg semi final clash with Turkish giants Fenerbache.

Jesus said the weekend’s 2-0 win over local rivals Sporting Lisbon might have taken its toll but he expects his team to be stronger when the return leg takes place in Lisbon.

Fenerbahce gained an advantage by beating Portuguese club Benfica 1-0 in Istanbul with a 72nd-minute header from Egemen Korkmaz.
