The kogi state police command in lokoja in a press statement signed by the deputy police relation officer, ASP Ajayi Okansanmi, noted that  nobody died on the day of the local government council poll in Kogi state, and that there was no violence recorded through the length and breath either.

He however said that on “3rd may 2013 prior to election day, two deaths were recorded, one councillorship candidate, Mr Adonist Omeh of Awo Apolokuta in Okaba Amkpa LGA was ambushed along Awo garage and Awo Olikochipo who was shot to death by an unknown assailant.

The statement also stated that in another development, a suspected political thug by name Augustine Ebiloma died as a result of injuries he sustained while fighting with another suspected thug named Danjuma Omode both from Dekina Local Government.

The suspect was said to have been arrested and is presently helping the police in their investigation.

On that same 3rd may 2013 the PDP office, and KOSIEC office both in Bassa Local government areas of Kogi state was also razed down by two arsonist, and two suspects were said to have been arrested in connection.

Police also noted that in all 25 suspects have been arrested for various electoral offences and that they are undergoing interrogation and would soon be charged to court.

The statement also noted that the just concluded local government election in the state was peaceful and violence free because of the professionalism displayed by the police.

This, the police said is to correct the erroneous reports in some of the national dailies that many people died on election day.
