The Osun state government through one of its initiatives, Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme Technology (OYES-TECH) has completed training for about 5000 unemployed youths, which will enable them assemble and repair electronic appliances such as mobile phones and computers.

At the graduation ceremony of the trainees, held in Osogbo, Governor Rauf Aregbesola disclosed that OYES-TECH is a training programme initiated by his administration to provide youths with a deep and broad understanding of the theoretical framework in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The graduands were trained in mobile phone assembly and repair, computer technology and entrepreneurial skills as well as necessary skills needed for sustainable employment in the ICT industry, for six months.

Aregbesola also stressed the need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to renew its dedication to the issue of youth unemployment and proffer more pro-active policies that will help in reducing its impact on the economy.

Governor Aregbesola added that youth unemployment is responsible for the restiveness of youths in the country.

Some of the beneficiaries of the OyesTECH scheme told Channels Television that the programme has groomed them to be employers of labour.

The scheme is designed to train 20,000 youths in four batches, with each comprising 5000 in each phase.
