The Oyo state government has distributed relief materials worth millions of Naira to victims of Omitowoju fire disaster which occurred on Monday, 22nd of April when a tanker loaded with petrol lost control and exploded, burning about 70 buildings in the resulting inferno.

At the headquarters of Ibadan North West local government, the Oyo state governor, who was represented by his deputy; Moses Adeyemo, disclosed that the distribution of relief materials will be in two phases.

According to the deputy governor, the first phase will cater for landlords who lost their houses and property in the inferno.

The reprieve is coming barely two weeks after that the incidence and visit by the Governor, who promised prompt action in assisting the affected residents.

About 30 houses and almost 100 shops were completely razed while about 12 houses were partially torched in the fire.

In the same vein, Senator representing Oyo south senatorial district under where the inferno occurred, Femi Lanleyin also distributed relief materials and cash to all landlords to rebuild their homes while artisan tools which were destroyed by the fire, were replaced.

Roofing sheets, cement, planks, food items, hair dryers, sewing machines, clippers and generators were distributed.

Spokesperson for the state government on Disaster and transition, chairman Ibadan north west local government; Wasiu Olatubosun explained that the relief materials were given to cushion the effect of the inferno.

He also disclosed that the governor had ordered an immediate upgrade of the fire service in the state for better efficiency.
