The Federal Government says it has set aside $100m from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) to tackle the high rate of maternal and child mortality in the country.

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Mohammed Ali Patte made the announcement at the launch of the conditional cash transfer pilot programme of SURE-P in Abuja.

The minister challenged Nigerians to hold government accountable to ensure transparency and delivery of the programme.

The Minister of State for the FCT, Mrs Olajumoke Akinjide, supervised the distribution of N5,000 to some pregnant women through the SURE-P conditional cash transfer scheme, promising that the FCT would also devote a substantial amount of the N2 billion revenue allocated to the FCT from the SURE-P fund to support healthcare.
