The Jamatu Naril Islam (JNI) on Wednesday joined calls supporting the state of emergency declared in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States by President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that it is a welcome development as long as the military officers carry out their orders by adhering strictly to the rules of engagement.

Secretary General of the Islamic body, Dr Kahlid Abubakar, in an interview with Channels Television in Kaduna, although expressed fears that the situation in the three states had been volatile and unwholesome without an emergency, he called on the troops deployed to the areas to maintain professionalism and allow the rule of law to prevail.

He urged the federal government not to discontinue dialogue with members of Boko Haram despite the emergency rule, adding that the two (state of emergency and amnesty) are all geared towards restoration of peace in the North.

The JNI scribe, however, expressed optimism that the members of the sect will embrace the amnesty option by the federal government whenever it is offered to them.
