The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, has revealed that the deployment of troops to the states that President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency would be with immediate effect and the exclusive preserve of the defence headquarters.
Dr Okupe made this known while speaking exclusively to Channels Television, adding that the number of troops to be deployed would be determined solely by the Defence Headquarters.
He also stated that the action of the President in quelling insurgency in the affected states should serve as a wake-up call to other states to be on the alert at all times in case there is invasion of the other states by terrorists or insurgents.
On the criticism of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with regard to the the emergency rule, the President’s aide said that what the opposition party had said was regrettable.
According to him Nigerians will soon know who has their greater interest at heart.
