Three days after a state of emergency was declared on Borno and two other states, the Nigerian Army has announced that advancing troops of the military’s Special Task Force have destroyed some terrorists camps sited in the forests of northern and central Borno state.
The onslaught which was launched in forests of the troubled state also led to the killing of members of the Islamic sect but the military is yet to ascertain the number of casualty.
A statement by Director Defence Information for the Defence Headquarters Brigadier General Chris Olukolade; claimed that “heavy weapons including anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns were also destroyed in the process.”
The statement added that “the special operations which preceded troops movement has resulted in the destruction of much of the insurgent’s weapons and logistics such as vehicles, containers, fuel dumps and power generators.”
Confirming that the onslaught has led to the death of some members of the sect, the military spokesperson stated that “the casualties inflicted on the insurgents in the cause of the assault will be verified during mop up.”
“The Defence Headquarters is quite satisfied with the progress of the operation and the fighting spirit of participating troops. The Special Task Force have been enjoined to sustain the tempo” the statement adds, signifying the delight in the job done.
Meanwhile, border posts across the northeastern state have all been manned by security agents to prevent escape or infiltrations by insurgents.
