The tussle between the Peoples’ Democratic Party and the Rivers State Governor has taken a new twist as a High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has stopped the party from taking any further action against Governor Rotimi Amaechi, pending the hearing of a suit instituted by the governor challenging the party’s decision to suspend him.

Mr. Amaechi was suspended by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) for “violating articles 58 1 (b), (c ), (h) and (m) of the PDP constitution following his refusal to obey the directive of the state executive committee to rescind his decision dissolving the elected executive council of Obiokpor local government area.

Mr. Amaechi has however denied any involvement in the dissolution, saying it was the state house of assembly that suspended the council.

Justice Emmanuel Ogbuji agreed with Mr. Amaechi’s lawyer, Akin Olujimi, who approached it with a preliminary application asking for a suspension order.

The judge ordered the PDP to maintain the status quo in the matter until the determination of Amaechi’s suit.
