Dubbed the ‘PDP family dinner’, members of Nigeria’s ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) converged at the banquet hall of the presidential Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Thursday night as part of activities marking the democracy day.

The PDP family dinner soon turned out to be a forum where leaders from various geo- political zones gave President Goodluck Jonathan the nod to contest for the 2015 presidential election.

The party leaders from the south west led by Chief Ebenezar Babatope, said they will continue to support the effort of the President, those from the north central, led by Professfor Jerry Gana, said there was no need to change the winning team.

Ambassador Aminu Wali, spoke on behalf of the north west region, while Hajia Zeinab Meina, spoke for the north east and Senator Stella Omu from the south-south and they all enjoined the President to proceed and seek and another term.

Meanwhile the President is yet to make his stand known on whether he would seek re-election or not.

The chairman, PDP Board of Trustees’ Tony Aneni sued for automatic return for all PDP elected officials that have performed well and he called for peace in the PDP governors’ forum and discipline in the party.

For the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, this is the time to entrench democratic culture in the country and that can take place with harmony in the party and the executive and legislature.

Those at the dinner included PDP governors, Senators, House of Representative members, the national chairman of the party, state chairmen of the 36 states of the federation, elders of the party, as well as chairman of PDP’s board of trustees.

Conspicuously missing at the event though was former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, former military president, retired General Ibrahim Babangida and some top notch members of the party.
