The Police Command in Edo state has said it is determined to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Ibrahim Momodu, a final year student of University of Benin, allegedly killed and hurriedly buried in Benin City by police officers on the 27th of May.
The state’s Police Commissioner; Folusho Adebanjo, who briefed journalists on Friday over the matter, said the body of Ibrahim Momodu has been exhumed and the Command has forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution.
He also said that the District Police Officer (DPO) Caroline Afegbai, who is accused of killing Ibrahim, has been redeployed while her orderly, a constable, Idahosa Amadi who allegedly carried out the shooting has been detained pending the conclusion of investigation in the matter.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to non-acceptance of extra-judicial killing.
Students of the University of Benin on Monday, closed some major roads in Benin City, the Edo state capital, protesting the alleged killing of Ibrahim by officers of Ogida Police Station.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Eguavoen however claimed that the deceased was an armed robber, adding that a gun, bullets, two mobile phones and a bag was found with the deceased.
