A member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim El-Sudi, has revealed that the Constitution Amendment committee of the House has proposed the need for the Nigeria Police Force to be renamed Nigeria Police, as part of its recommendation.

Mr El-Sudi made this known on Channels TV weekend programme; Sunrise, while answering questions on police reforms in the on-going constitution amendment.

According to him, “what has been done in terms of police autonomy is the change of nomenclature from the Nigerian Police Force to the Nigerian Police.”

The lawmaker explained that by virtue of the Armed Forces Act, “we have the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force; therefore, we should have the Nigerian Police rather than the Nigerian Police Force.”

“May be that is why they (police officers) exhibit some brutal force in their operations” he quipped.
