The Secretary General of the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) and former U-17 national team Coach, Fanny Amun has debunked statement credited to him in the media that the team he coached once ‘wobble and fumble to the final’ of a completion.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television weekend programme, Coach Amun said ‘wobble and fumble to the final’ were ‘media words not me.’

In 1999, when Nigeria hosted the U-20 world cup, Coach Fanny Amun the then coach of the Flying Eagles presented a team that in every measure did not meet up with many people’s expectations. However, the team was churning out wins one way or the other to progress from match to match despite playing against palpably better teams.

When asked if the team was going to continue like this, Coach Amun had reportedly said his team will continue to “wobble and fumble till they get to the final.” They did progress in a shaky fashion and eventually earned the bronze medal. Many Nigerian commentators have since used that expression in football and in politics.
