The rift over the leadership of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum is gradually playing out.

The Jonah Jang faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum has met in Abuja in what the Plateau State governor explained was an attempt at bringing all the governors together after the chairmanship election which split the group into two factions.

Although Governor Jang who spoke with journalists after Monday’s meeting did not give details of their discussion, he debunked the claim that the fact that only  16 governors attended the meeting meant he still does have the support of all the governors, saying that the governors who did not attend might have other things to attend to.

Governor Jang also dismissed the claim by Governor Chibuike Amaechi, that he is impersonating the Rivers State governor, saying he had never claimed to be the governor of Rivers State.

Governor Amaechi had asked his colleague governors to ignore the meeting called by governor Jang for the members of the Nigerian Governors Forum.

Governor Amaechi told his colleagues that the only meeting the governors were to attend was that with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa Monday evening.
But governor Jang in a counter response explained that he indeed was aware of the meeting with the President at the Villa, but that the meeting he was asking the governors to attend would hold about 7pm before the 9pm meeting with the President.
