A State prosecutor has argued successfully in favour of government in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court to have nine men arrested for dumping human waste at Cape Town International Airport detained until their bail hearing.

Two of them, ANC councillor Loyiso Nkhola and former councillor Andile Lile, were out on a warning for a similar offence when they allegedly dumped the waste at the airport’s departures terminal on Tuesday afternoon.

The other accused are Yanga Mjingwana, Ben Dyani, Bantu Mgobodiya, Wandesle Mkapa, Jaji Diniso, Bongile Zanazo and Thembela Mabanjwa.

They faced public violence charges, but the State said additional charges were expected.

The bail hearing would take place on Tuesday.

The prosecutor hinged his argument on the fact that there was a “great possibility” the men would commit the “same or similar offences” if released.
