The Imo State Resident Commissioner for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Seline Oko, has declared the result of the Oguta State constituency re-run election as inconclusive beacuse there was no result from eight polling units during the collation of the final results.

Speaking to journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Professor Oko said as at the time of final collation of the results, the difference between the first and second candidate is a total of 2,011 votes and as the Electoral Act stipulated, if the difference between the first and second candidate is lower than the number of registers voters that were disenfranchised, it is the duty of INEC to declare the elections inconclusive.

She however added that reports from polling agents during the elections showed that 4,861 registered voters in 8 polling booths were disenfranchised due to violence that erupted in the area

Meanwhile, the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has insisted that the candidate of the All Progressives’ Grand Alliance (APGA) Mr.Walter Uzowanne should be declared winner of the election since the INEC result sheet showed that the APGA candidate is leading with 2011 votes more than the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.

He expressed displeasure over the delay in the declaration of the APGA candidate, describing it has an attempt by the ruling party at the federal level to refuse APGA’s candidate of his mandate as the winner of the election.

However, the People’s Democratic Party in the state on the other hand has accused INEC of collaborating with the APGA to rig the election, arguing that their candidate is the true winner of the election.
