Kogi state governor Idris Wada has been honored as the best performing governor for his contribution to the fight for the total eradication of polio in Kogi state.

Presenting the governor with the Nigeria Governor Immunization Leadership Challenge/Bill and Melinda Gates award in Lokoja, the director, National Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Ado Mohammed, who represented the Minister for Heath said Governor Idris Wada has performed well in terms of routing immunization in Kogi state.

While delivering his opening speech, the Commissioner for Health in Kogi state Idris Omede, commended the governor for his commitment towards repositioning health care service delivery in the state and re-echoed the administration’s resolve to sustain the current polio free status in the state

The Commissioner while presenting the award to Mr Wada congratulated the governor for his feat, reiterating the federal government’s resolve towards ensuring the lives of children and mothers are protected from preventable diseases and cases.

The Governor described the award as a wakeup call for his administration to intensify efforts as he attributed the success to the collective effort of all stake holders in the health sector and residents of the state.

He thanked Bill and Melinda Gates foundation for supporting the polio challenge globally with their resources while promising not to rest until Kogi state becomes the model for primary health care delivery.

The program which took place at the banquet hall of the government house had in attendance medical practitioners, government officials and some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the state.
