The working committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ekiti state chapter has suspended the chairman of the party, Ogundipe Makanjuola following the disagreement between the party members recently, alleging that the chairman is being bribed by some aspirants in the party.

The deputy chairman of the party, Femi Bamishile has been mandated to take over the office of the chairman until the investigations are over.

Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, the Director information Ekiti state PDP, Gboyega Aribisogan, explained the cause of the disagreement saying some names of the committee members setup to look into the consensus issues are traceable to some aspirants therefore the state working committee agreed to step down the process so the list can be verified and corrected.

A faction of the PDP Ekiti state had on Wednesday opposed the consensus committee, set up by the leadership of the party, to look into the coming election to enable them pick the candidate for the governorship election 2014.

The disagreement resulted to blood shed of two members of the party namely Kola Adefemi and Tunji Olarinwaju. Some journalists were also seriously battered in order to prevent them from covering the incidents.

The Publicity Secretary of the chapter, Kola Oluwawole, condemned this.

Commissioner for information and civic orientation Ekiti state, Tayo Ekundayo, while reacting to this said Ekiti people are known as honourable men and women, hence resorting to violence as a way of settling political differences does not augur well for the state.

He sincerely urged all our politicians and leaders of political parties in the state to stay clear of actions capable of throwing the state into crisis as we approach the electioneering period. The peace and wellbeing of the state should remain a top priority to all who aspire to public office.
