Intrigues and high level politicking over the amended 2013 budget may have finally paid off.

The senate has passed the 2013 amendment budget bill through the crucial second reading.

Correspondent Linda Akhigbe reports that the senate also intends to conclude work on the budget in twenty four hours.

This brings to an end months of bickering and back and forth between the senate and the executive over the 2013 budget.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on three occasions sought an amendment of the budget.

On one of such occasions, the president asked the lawmakers to restore allocations to capital projects which were reduced in the budget.

But the senate was not pleased with the magnitude of amendments which the president sought.

However it appears that the senate and the executive have been able to resolve their differences over the 2013 budget.

There are reports that both sides reached a compromise during a meeting at the weekend.

However lawmakers want more clarification on some of the items in the budget.
