A group known as Arewa Peoples Patriotic Front has faulted the northern elders’ forum insistence that President Goodluck Jonathan should not seek for re-election in 2015, saying there is no constitutional provision prohibiting the president from having a second term in office.
At a news conference in Kaduna, national chairman of the forum, Mr Sunday Ibrahim said rather than the elders calling for presidency to return to the north, the elders concern should be how to handle and address the series of problems facing the region and the country at large.
While accusing the northern elders of being responsible for the problems facing the region, the group also described agitation for zoning the presidency to a particular region as unconstitutional and a plot to destabilize the country, adding that what Nigeria needs at the moment is not a regional president.
