Ahead of the Anambra gubernatorial election billed for November the 16th, the Anambra state Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has produced  factional  candidates.

Governor Shehu Shettima of Katsina in his capacity as the Primary Committee Chairman conducted the primary which was described as transparent and credible.

The election produced Mr. Tony Nwoye as the candidate to fly the factional flag of Kenneth Emeakayi- led PDP, while the parallel primary produced Senator Andy Ubah as the flag bearer of Ejike Oguebego faction.

Governors of Katsina and Gombe states, two serving senators, members of the House of Representatives from Anambra and officers of the National Working Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, were also at Anambra state to conduct the governorship primaries ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election in the state.

Party delegates arrived at Women Development Center, Awka, and the first venue for the primary to go through the accreditation process.

A mammoth crowd which confirmed the 978 delegates and the 21 statutory delegates from the 376 wards in Anambra state were largely present.

Secretary of the Primary committee, Mr. Nse Ntuen, reeled out the rules of the primaries while the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, in the company of the state commissioner of police ensured security was in place.

Accredited delegates were ushered into a waiting vehicle for movement to Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, still in Awka, for the phase two of the primaries.

Arrival of the governor of Katsina state, who is the chairman of the primary committee and Gombe state governor, Ibrahim Dakwabu, who is the leader of the Monitoring Committee, signalled the commencement of the election.

Delegates according to senatorial zones and by local government voted for any of the fourteen candidates with the exception of one of the aspirants, Mr. Akachukwu Nwankpo who opted out. Another aspirant, Obinna Uzoh was conspicuously absent. Voting ended around after 10pm, as sorting and counting commenced at the end of which emerged Mr. Tony Nwoye from Anambra North Senatorial Zone as the flag bearer.

A total of 881 votes were cast and in a similar development, a parallel primary of the PDP led by the factional leader, Ejike Oguebego was also held at Emmaus complex.

The primary produced Senator Andy Ubah who polled 640 five votes as the candidate for governorship election of November 16th.
