The Commissioner for Agriculture in Kano state, Baraka Sanni has said that agriculture is the most sustainable sector in the economy, adding that the 19th Nigerian Economic Summit marks the first time its getting the much needed attention it deserves.

“It is one of the most important sectors that the government has to face,” she said.

Speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, she pointed out some factors that will help agriculture in the state.

Starting with employment, she said the state intends to create employment for the youth and vulnerable women.

Following employment, she mentioned food security, saying that the state is trying to create more in terms of production to be able to feed the population, adding that the state gets more visitors and they have to work towards more food sustainable policy.

She stated further that increment in the income of farmers and the aim to jack-up the internally generated revenue can be achieved using agriculture.

The commissioner mentioned some institutes that have turned the whole page when it comes to employment in the state,with focus on one of the institute, the Poultry Institute which according to her, has helped in training women on Small Holder Poultry Programme, and so far about 2,800 women have been trained in the institute.

The commissioner said that the training programme reaches out to not just literate women but also to women who are not educated.
