The outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru has been listing some of the achievements recorded during his tenure in office.

Speaking at the hand-over to his successor, Professor Viola Onwuliri, Ambassador Ashiru explained that through the Economic Diplomacy Initiative under his watch, Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, hit eight billion dollars in 2012, while Foreign Direct Remittances from Nigerians in Diaspora was twenty two billion dollars.

He also added that he secured the appointment of 22 Nigerians into international positions in two years.

He, however, regretted that the performance was two positions short of the 24 he hoped to achieve during his stay in office.

Ambassador Ashiru was sacked alongside eight other ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday.
