Focus On Accountability Of Politicians, Not 2015– Ekweremadu Urges Media

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has urged the media to place more emphasis on accountability of the political class rather than the race for the 2015 general elections.

Senator Ekweremadu who spoke at the opening of an international experience sharing conference on media and elections in Abuja called for an investigation into the implementation of the single term tenure as recommended by the senate committee on constitution review.

Less than two years away from the next general elections and politicians are entangled in deep political crisis.

The dispute over who will take over the reins of power in 2015 apparently has overshadowed governance across the states.

Drawing more attention to this fact, the Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu urged media practitioners at the forum not to be caught in the fireworks and overheat the polity but objectively probe activities of politicians.

Some participants at the conference criticized the nation’s electoral system, raising questions about the permanent voter cards by the independent national electoral commission.

The independent national electoral commission also received criticisms over the promised distribution of the permanent voters’ card and the biometric system.
