It is no longer news that the PDP has emerged victorious in the just concluded Delta senatorial district bye election held on Saturday, but what’s recent is that the APC and other parties that contested the election are kicking against the result of the election.

The winner in the Delta central senatorial district bye election, Mr Emmanuel Aguariavwodo outshined his closest competitor with over 200,000 votes, which has thrown up celebration in the ranks of the PDP.

The governor of Delta state, Emmanuel Uduaghan, joined other members of the party to celebrate the victory as the winner boasts that with the result, there are no parties that will challenge the party’s dominance.

The All Progressives Congress candidate in the Delta central senatorial district bye-election is calling for outright cancellation of the election and for INEC to fix a date for a re-run.

The APC in a post-election press conference accused the PDP of using the military to intimidate voters and also accused the PDP of  falsification of results.

The opposition alleged that the PDP prevented voting materials from reaching polling units in opposition strongholds during the election on Saturday.

A statement issued by the APC, said reports from its agents on the field indicated that armed soldiers and policemen were deployed strategically to intimidate voters, while trailers and tankers were used to block the roads leading to the opposition strongholds, thereby preventing voting materials from reaching there.

According to the APC, the worst-hit areas were Ughelli-North; Udu and Uvwie local governments.

The opposition party adds that several Hilux vehicles loaded with armed soldiers were sent to Okpe local government ward 8 collation centres since Friday night.

Earlier on yesterday, party agents had complained about logistic problems which hampered the exercise.

The bye elections took place in eight local government areas of Delta state.

The poll became necessary after the death of Senator Pius Ewherido on June 30, 2013.  The Late Senator Ewherido won the seat in 2011 on the platform of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, which fielded Ede Dafinone as its candidate in yesterday’s poll.
