It appears the worst is yet to come, over the lingering ASUU/FG tussle which was kick-started with the decision of the latter to embark on an indefinite strike which is edging into its fourth month since July 1st.

Following the deadlock of negotiations between the ASUU and the federal government, the threat by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the striking lecturers should resume work or be disgraced and the Information Minister, Labaran Maku urging the ASUU to return to their classrooms and quit politicking over the strike, which so far has not yielded any result, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) today warned that it will mobilize its members to stage counter protests across the country if the federal government fails to implement the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Addressing  a news conference at the end of  its  national executive council meeting held in Kaduna on Wednesday, the  NLC president, Abduwaheed Omar said although the union will  intervene in the crisis between ASUU and federal government by reaching out to both parties to shift grounds, so that  the strike can be called off, he  expressed  worry  that the federal government has not shown enough concern and commitment to address the demands of ASUU, but rather is busy sponsoring protests groups against ASUU and NLC.

On the alleged corruption in the aviation sector, NLC condemned the scandalous purchase of two bullet proof cars by the Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Oduah and therefore called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack her from his cabinet without further delay.

The council while commending the federal government on the introduction of the new automotive policy, however cautioned that the ban on used cars into the country should be done in a manner that it does not impose unnecessary hardship on the citizens, and also to correct the mistake of similar policy in the 70s and take adequate measures to revive the petrochemical and iron and steel plants in the country.
