Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has tasked the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue to ensure that the unity of Nigeria remains sacrosanct as the nation prepares for the convocation of a national conference.
Senator Ekweremadu who gave this advice while receiving members of the committee who visited the National Assembly as part of its nationwide consultations ahead of the conference, also condemned the call for Sovereign National Conference, describing it as an invitation to anarchy.
According to him, the National Assembly welcomes the move for national dialogue and added that following the passage by Senate of an amendment to Section 9 of the 1999 Constitution to provide the legal basis for the process of evolving a new constitution, the Senate has already put in motion the legal framework that will make the proposed conference valid.
