In recent times the Nigerian air space has recorded alarming numbers of air mishaps, recording about 10 air crashes in the last 20 years, that’s an average of 1 every two years. Several lives have been lost, including those of top government officials and foreigners.

On this edition of Law Weekly we analyse the laws guiding the aviation industry as regards safety, operation and compensation.

The aviation industry is governed by the Civil Aviation act of 2006, and other regulations like the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, NCAA regulations and some others.

An aviation lawyer, Tunde Irukera, examines how these regulations have been complied  with so far to make air travel safer, and some of the challenges facing the industry.
