Governor Seriake Dickson’s one storey building is among houses demolished by the Bayelsa State Government in Yenagoa the state capital.

The Governor’s building was marked for demolition by the Capital City Development Authority because it obstructs the right of way and intrudes on the State Capital City Master Plan.

According to a senior government official, the structures being demolished are distorting the state’s master plan “we have awarded contracts for the construction of this road. As you can see representatives of the contractors here to facilitate their work and to ensure that the beauty we expect in Yenagoa is restored. We are starting the demolition and we are starting with the house of the governor.”

The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjapko said the exercise must go on if the state is to achieve its vision of being a tourism destination. According to him, illegality does not give birth to legality.

As far as the Bayelsa State Government is concerned, it is all about leading by example and it has called on residents to cooperate with the government in moving the state forward while assuring them that all genuine claims to compensation will be paid.
