The House of Representatives has received a report on the current situation in states where President Goodluck Jonathan proclaimed the State of Emergency on a day it was to deliberate on the request for the extension of the Emergency rule.

At the plenary held to consider the request for an extension of the proclamation of emergency rule by President Jonathan, the minority leader of the house, Femi Gbajabiamila, suggested that the house should consider the ‘Situation Report’ before the members vote on the extension.

The Nigerian President had sent a letter to the house requesting the extension of the State of Emergency in three northern states – Adamawa, Borno and Yobe – experiencing insurgency before sending the situation report.

The Senate has approved the extension on November 7 after deliberations on the letter sent to the National Assembly.

The initial six months State of Emergency imposed on the states will expire on November 12.
