Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state has called on the states to spearhead developmental moves in the country “as is been done in other parts of the world”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum 2nd retreat held in Sokoto during the weekend, Nyako noted that “it is apparent here that the emphasis is on the central government, the federal government. While really, in other parts of the world, the centre of development is really the state” insisting that “this is what is happening now all over the world”.

The governor further hoped that “by the time we finish this (retreat), we will see the need for the states picking up the gauntlet and delivering what is expected of them”.

He alleged that “clearly the way we have been has failed us” berating “the rate of development in the country”.

He also noted that “the fact that we are holding this retreat is an indication that all what is going on, clearly; the level of insecurity; the fact that we don’t have a dream that we can sort out other than the one may be in the National Anthem; is a clear indication that we need to do better than what we were doing in the past”.

He said the retreat was for them to “sit down , look at it and agree what should be our dream, what do we want to be doing, which is extremely important and how do we go about it”.
