Anambra Guber Election: INEC Was Excellent — APGA

The National President of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Victor Umeh, has described the performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Anambra State governorship election as excellent.

Mr Umeh also said that the election, which was declared inconclusive by the commission due to irregularities, was a successful election that was transparent and free.

The election has generated lots of criticisms.

He said that the election was the best election ever conducted by INEC in the state.

On Channels Television’s programme, Sunrise Daily, on Wednesday, Mr Umeh insisted that the ‘beautiful election’ was flawed by a spot action.

“The election was conducted in 4,608 polling units and the election was repeated in only 210 polling units.

“Out of the 210 polling units, 160 polling units came from one local government – Idemili North. It was this same local government election that was used to wreck the election,” he explained.

‘Massively Rigged’

He dismissed claims by other parties’ candidates that the election was ‘massively rigged’ by APGA and insisted that Idemili North was a local government that was programmed to be used to rig the election by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“They did not want to conduct election in Idemili North Local Government Area because it is their strong hold. They compromised the officials there.

“There were no result sheets in some polling units in the local government. Materials were not distributed by the officials in some other polling units,” Mr Umeh further explained.

He alleged that the APC ensured that that Yoruba officials of the electoral commission were posted to the area to manipulate the election.

“If APC wants to be objective, they should deal with issues the way they are. They cannot be condemning an election that was successful in 4,200 polling units and call for its cancelation,” he insisted.

The APC, the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party have called for the cancelation of the election, insisting that the election was flawed by irregularities and massively rigged in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

INEC declared the election inconclusive, saying it will conduct a supplementary election on a date not yet announced.
